Jean-Marie Straub & Danièle Huillet
Antigone, 1991
Courtesy Cineteca Bologna Of A People Who Are Missing

I was interested in two ideas explored in the work of Straub and Hulliet: a) transformation of a work from one medium to an other, such as literature, painting and music into film, as a process of re-reading, re-inventing or readjusting of meaning, and b) the fact that the artists categorically refused to offer any kind of interpretation that might ease or facilitate access to the artwork or so-called original. Interesting in light of our Artist's Statement project, no?
